Screening for Dyslexia and Other Related Disorders is a two-hour, self-paced course providing information that includes identification characteristics of a child with dyslexia and the impact it can have on the academic and social life.
This course includes information about the new Missouri Law 635 and how to meet the requirements for screening and professional development beginning in the 2018-2019 school year.

Course Development
The modules for this series were developed using principles of effective technology engagement and evidence-based practices in the area of dyslexia. The self-paced modules were developed to be easy for teachers and other school personnel to access while providing high-quality information. The modules were developed by the authors and then were vetted by experts in the areas of literacy, curriculum development, research in literacy, and dyslexia. Following modifications, the final model was piloted prior to final publication.
Course Developers
Erica Lembke, Ph.D. is a professor and chair of the Department of Special Education at the University of Missouri. Her research interests include developing strategies to improve special education students’ academic performance and progress monitoring in basic academic skills for elementary, middle, and secondary students. She has served as a PI or Co-PI on federal grants totally close to $9.3 million. She provides numerous workshops and technical assistance related to intervention and data-based decision-making. In addition, she is one of the primary leads on the development of the Evidence-Based Intervention network (ebi.missouri.edu) math briefs. Prior to joining the faculty at Mizzou, she was an elementary special education teacher for 6 years in Iowa, including teaching Title I reading.
Jennifer Kuehnle, M.Ed is the eLearning Course Development Coordinator and Instructional Specialist for the eMINTS National Center at the University of Missouri Columbia. She combines her love of integrating research-based instructional technology practices and special education to assist in the development of programs and courses for teachers across the country. Prior to eMINTS, she taught for 15 years in an elementary school in St. Louis, Missouri.
